If you need individual assistance with scheduling, please call our scheduling hot-line at . Make sure you leave a message if you reach our voice mail and your call will be returned promptly. Our office is conveniently located on Balboa Park, at the corner of 6th Avenue and Juniper Street. There are three metered spaces immediately in front of the building, a pay lot just north of the building, and free parking is almost always available in Balboa Park. We recommend you enter the park at Laurel St./The Prado, turn right at the stop sign onto Balboa Drive, and drive south until you find a space near the next corner. Eastern Body Therapy is located on the second floor, at the south end of the building. Please note that the sign is not on the actual entrance to the office, but has an arrow which points to the entrance. We have the world's slowest elevator, but it works!
You will be asked to complete paperwork before your visit. Here is a link to the forms:
Initial Intake Forms
Please wear loose comfortable clothing to your appointment, make sure you have had something to eat within two hours of your treatment, and remember to bring your paperwork.
An initial acupuncture consultation takes approximately 20-30 minutes. It includes:
Discussion about your reason for seeking acupuncture
Review of the history of this condition
Review of your medical history
Review of paperwork completed
“Asking” diagnosis including review of overall body functions such as sleep, appetite, digestion, elimination, pain, body temperature regulation
Pulse analysis
Tongue analysis
Depending on the condition, it may also include physical examination such as looking at the range of motion of your neck, testing muscle strength in your arms or legs, or feeling for tension or inflammation in muscles.
This information is used to form a Chinese medicine diagnosis which guides the choice of acupuncture points to use in your treatment.
Acupuncture is the insertion of tiny, single use, sterile, stainless steel, solid needles at very specific points on the body. These needles help to restore normal body function, relieve pain, and calm the sympathetic nervous system helping you to “mellow out” naturally.
Points will be selected based on the consultation. You may be asked to remove or adjust some of your clothing so the selected points are exposed. Most points used will be on the arms, legs, back, or abdomen. You will be asked to lie down, and needles will be inserted at the points selected. You will then be left to relax for approximately 20 minutes while the needles do their magic.
Next, we'll come back and remove the neeedles and answer any questions you may have. We'll give you our recommendations for future care, and you'll have the option to schedule another appointment if you want to.
If you have more questions about acupuncture and other services offered at Eastern Body Therapy, please feel free to look around this web site. We're happy to answer more extensive questions during your appointment.
We hope you will love your treatment and want to come back. Please make sure to ask about your options for follow-up appointments before you leave!
