Recipes for a Lively Lung

In Chinese Medicine, the lung is the organ responsible for breathing. When we breathe, we bring qi from the air into the body, then circulate this qi throughout the body. Along with the heart, the lungs control the channels and blood vessels. They are also responsible for the exterior of the body - the skin and immune system. This includes regulation of sweating. The sense organ associated with the lungs is the nose. The emotion of the lung is grief. Its color is white, its season is late fall, and its flavor is spicy. The lung is of the metal element. Symptoms of an imbalance in the lung system may include cough, runny nose, asthma, frequently catching colds, skin rashes, and allergies.
